Cannot Open Connection to Server

  • Hi,

I keep getting this error from my client machine.

Cannot open connection to analysis server "myserver" Error in Data [Possible Data Corruption].

I have reinstalled on the client machine. Found kb article (Q278325) tried the workaround but that did not work . If i work on the server i can connect fine. Anybody have this happen before?

    thanks

    mark

  • Well i found out that my password on the server had expired. this Wish they would have given a error for that. Everything seems to be working now

  • When trying to register Analysis Server on NT Server on Analysis Manager on Workstation box, I get the same error message:

"Cannot open connection to Analysis Server on <ServerName>. Error in data [Possible Data Corruption]".

If I right-click on the name of this server in analysis manager and select "Edit Repository Connection String", an "Automation Error" dialog box pops up.

I have checked other topics regarding Analysis Services connection problems and have made sure that users are in the OLAP Administrators domain group and that my server password is correct, appropriate permissions exist for the OLAP folders and files, etc.

    Summary of setup:

Analysis Services 2000 set up on NT Server 4. Works fine locally running Analysis Manager on box.

Analysis Services 2000 set up on Win2000 client box. Works fine locally running Analysis Manager on box.

Analysis Services 2000 set up on NT Workstation 4 SP6. Works fine locally running Analysis Manager or PivotTable List control (VB or web page). Cannot register AS from Server on AM on this or any other box.

I've had similar problems using PivotTable List control in ASP and VB - works fine when datasource is localhost or machine name of local box, but when pointing to another Analysis Server, there is no connection.

Analysis Services 2000 SP3 installed on all boxes

Any help/insight would be much appreciated!

Also, there is no problem registering SQL Server databases in Enterprise manager between these boxes.
