Hi All,
I have been running SQLServer 2008 R2 for some time in our business environment but now when i try to connect to our sql server it states the following error message:
Cannot connect to xxx.xxx.xx.xxx
Cannot generate SSPI context.
This only happens on my machine, i can connect via another computer using the same windows authentication credentials.
We have not changed the name of the instance either.
Any help will be much appreciated.

I have seen this error when a password for a Windows account has expired but has not been changed. Is that the case with your login?

Can it justify this requirement?

yes this is correct, i can access it from any other machine using the same windows authentication credentials. i can also access it through my local machine using the sa user, so it must be something to do with my windows authentication on my local machine right?

Yes, that's my point. Has the password expired but not yet been changed? You'll find out whether this is the case when you attempt to log on to Windows at a different computer.
As for working on one machine but not another, I'm not sure what's happening there. Maybe the domain controllers have not yet synchronised. I've seen errors in the errorlog like the one you described, even when the login does not actually fail.

my login password has not expired and is set to NOT expire so i dont think it is this as i can access the sql server from a diff machine with the same windows unsername and password

How to troubleshoot the "Cannot generate SSPI context" error message 😉

If you search for the error message on the internet, the first result is a comprehensive-looking Microsoft article on this. Have you worked your way through that?

Sounds like a potential domain issue with your machine. I have seen this happen when people do not shutdown their machine from their home network, and then connect directly to the domain. Have you tried restarting? Also, are you connected wirelessly and wired? As I said, this is typically an issue with your machine not binding to the domain. It may help to contact a network admin.
Thanks,

haha yes i have definitely tried rebooting my machine 🙂
I am only connected to the network via network cable, there are no issues that we know of from our domain controller either

Right-click on Computer and go to properties. Scroll down to ythe secion with the computer name and such. Is the Domain name correct? Just a double-check 🙂
Thanks,
