Hi guys
I started to work on a SSAS Project. I have created a Data Source, DSVs, Dimensions, ...
When I want to use the browser facility, I get the following error:
"User does not have access to the Analysis Project database, or the database does not exists"
When I try to create a new database directly from the Management Studio, I get the following error:
"User does not have permission to create a new object"
I've done a bit of reading on the problem and people seem to sort this issue by providing access to groups for their Windows users.
My user is part of the following groups:
- Administrators
- SQLServer2005MSOLAPUser$
- SQLServer2005MSSQLServer$
- SQLServer2005OLAPUser$
- SQLServer2005MSSQLUser$
- SQLServer2005NotificationServicesUser$
- SQLServer2005SQLAgentUser$
- SQLServer2005SQLBrowserUser$,computername>
I therefore still don't understand why I cannot create a new database or even add my user to the Analisys Services Security list.
Does anyone have an idea?
Cheers
Ludo

this is not going to cure the problem but in BIDS in the solution explorer you will see the solution and directly underneath that is the AS database. Rich click and display the properties. In the left pane select deployment and look at the values for server and database.
By default the server goes to local and if you have no local SSAS instance then this will cause an issue.
This is not going to fix all your woes as this does not explain why you so not have access thhrough SSMS to create databases.
Ells.

Besides what is stated here for deployment you will need to see if you are part of the SSAS Server Administrators. When you installed SSAS 2005 there was an option to setup the provisioning and this is the same in 2008. This is done at the time of install. If you go intot the properties of the SSAS instance when you are connected in SSMS you can go into the security page and setup the Server Administrators. Once you are in this you will be able to create the database as needed.

Hi
I have an instance of SSAS running on my local machine.
That's the that I have put in my previous post.
The properties of my Data Source point to my local machine.

... as for the SSAS properties, if I connect to my SSAS instance and bring up the properties, I can add my user in the list.
When I click on 'Ok', I get an error message saying that I do not have the permission to alter the SSAS.

What OS are you running? If you are running Vista or Win 7 you might want to run SSMS as administrator or go into the Compatibility tab of the SSMS shortcut properties and check the Privilege Level option to run the program as administrator.

Yes, I forgot to mention that I was on Vista.
I changed the properties to run SSMS to run as an Administrator ... and I managed to create a database AND add my user in the security properties!!
Progress at last!!!
Thank you so much. 🙂
This will hopefully help me to carry on without any other "permission denied" error messages.
