Cannot create a connection to data source ''.

    Hi

    I have created a report (or set of reports) that get their data from datasource and it all works fine in BIDS.

    When i deploy it and try and open it fromthe report server i get the error

    Cannot create a connection to data source 'SummaryViews'.

    Could anyone suggest any reason why this might be?

    Hi Erics

    It could be possible that your data source is either [a] not deployed or it was deployed and still referencing the developer environment.

    You can check it out by login at the Report Server's Report Manager, please follow these steps:

    1. Open Internet Explorer

    2. Enter your report's Report Manager's URL, something like: http://ServerName/Reports%5BInstanceName%5D

    3. You may need to enter your login credential to access the Report Manager (login-password), once that is done, your IE should be rendering something like this.

    4. Click on the Data Sources node, you should be able to see your SummaryViews connection.

    If you can not see it, you did not deploy it. You should deploy it at BIDS

    If it is there, then it is possible it is pointing to the wrong server, go to the next step.

    5. Double click on the SummaryViews data source, look at its connection string (see picture), it should have the wrong server, if that's the case, just enter the proper connection string, otherwise, let us know.

    If you modify the connection string, click on the Apply button and test your report again.
