Cannot connect to sql server 2005 database from reporting services

  • I am installing reporting services on a separate machine than that which has the database engine. In the configuration I am attempting to set up the database, but am running into an error 'An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server... (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 25 - Connection string is not valid)'.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

  • Where exactly are you getting the error? In the the reporting services configuration manager?

    a couple things to check:

-possibly the data source connection string is wrong

    -windows firewall may be enabled.

  • I am receiving the error in the reporting services configuration at the Database Setup stage.

  • Reporting services for 2005 needs to have a separate SQL license to run on a machine other than the machine it is deployed on. If you are trying to remotely connect to a machine using the same license I think I recall it rejecting the new install.

I also believe there is a separate install disk for installing Reporting services to run on a different server. If I find another reference I will post it.
