I have SQL2005 and SQL 2008 on a remote server. I am trying to connect to these Instances from my local system management studio. I can connect to the default instance(SQL 2005), but unable to connect to SQL 2008 (second instance). I get the error below:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. The server was not found or was not accessibly. Verify that the insance name is correct and that SQL server is configured to allow remote connections.(provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (Microsoft SQL Server)
But I can connect to this Instance(SQL 2008) from the server's management studio using remote desktop.
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks

Try changing the TCP port number of named instance and see it that works.
