cancelling a sql server backup

    HI all,

    i just had a user kick off a vb application that does a sql server backup of 1 database. it appears to be doing nothing and in enterprise manager the status of the connection is SLEEPING. can i cancel this or will i mess up the database in anyway?

    You should be able to just kill the process.  I've killed backups several times in the past with no ill effects.

    Is there a way to abort the backup programmatically?
