i have tried it by changing the instance name but i am getting the error like:"the service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion".
how to over come this?

you might want to check the Event logs on the PC to see the reason behind the failure, it might give you more insight.
What account is the SQL server service using?

we have to change instance name...
if we wont change the instance name we will get an error....

Changing the Instance name is a standard approach when installing multiple versins, if only to tell them apart.
As for the Account I meant is it using the Local system account.
What is your operating system, Vista/windows 7/XP?
Do you get the Error when you try and install or post install when you try and start the service?
Have you checked the Event logs on your PC to see if that give you any indication of whats wrong?
