My backs to the wall I need a quick confirmation of what I believe is true.
I have a w2k3 cluster running 2 instances of sql2005. Our sql2000 dev box crashed so I proposed we just add a 3rd cluster group to the cluster and do a sql2000 install to it.
So just confirm and any documentation would help that I can run 3 instances ( 2- sql2k5 and 1 sql2000) on a 2 node w2k3 cluster.
awe , disks etc I got covered
I am 99% sure but need to confirm prior to lighting this fire.

I'm not sure, though I'd htink it should work. You might want to call PSS and ask to be sure, despite what people might think here. If it doesn't work, might be a bug to report. At least they can make sure 2005 and 2008 can be clustered together.
Let us know what you find out. That's an interesting question.

Other than the "keep dev away from Prod boxes" and the issues with performance this might cause - there's no reason I know which would prevent it.

Your lack of planning does not constitute an emergency on my part...unless you're my manager...or a director and above...or a really loud-spoken end-user..All right - what was my emergency again?

In stead of keeping fingers crossed, because it should be possible.
Maybe it's better to just grab a spare DESKTOP, pop in a 500Gb disk and install a w2k3 server on it and restore the db.
This way, dev will be able to work, better darn slow than not :hehe:; bot at least you'll (and they will) not be any risk to your prod environment.
And you buy some time for a propre solution.
If then you'd opt for a mixed cluster environment, be sure to implement WSRM (windows system resource manager) so you can give priority to your production instances.
