Hi there,
Without pre-amble I have a 2-node, Windows 2016 failover cluster built in Azure. Its a POC so very basic (cluster name, ip and 1 S2D disk which I have also given a drive letter on each server F).
To avoid pre-rule check of MSCS (which doesn't work in 2016) I opted to go with 'Advanced Cluster Preparation' (that all went fine).
However, when I go to install the SQL cluster using 'Setup /SkipRules=Cluster_VerifyForErrors /Action=CompleteFailoverCluster', I get 'Rule "Cluster shared disk availability check" failed'.
Windows 2012 doesn't support S2D and Azure doesn't support Cluster Shared Disk (they refer to it as Cluster Shared Volumes) and SQL 2012 it would seem doesn't like these either.
I cant find any document that says if it does or doesn't work and I am at a loss. You can take it as FACT that it has to be SQL 2012 (no movement there).
So my question: Is it even possible to build a SQL 2012 failover cluster in Azure?

I've asked this on Twitter, since I wasn't sure myself. The answer from the Azure Support account is that this isn't supported for 2012.

Ok thanks Steve.
At least we know now and it wasn't just me being crap 😉
