Hi everyone, I am not sure where to post it, so if it is wrong, please announce me about moving it:-)
When I installed it, it reports this error:
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Setup
------------------------------
The following error has occurred:
External component has thrown an exception.
What must I do, I can't install Database Engine Services, I am using Windows 7 SP1 32 bit, when I installed SQL Server 2008 Developer, OS report it is not compatiable and after installed it, I must update to SP1, but when I install it reported this exception and failed.
How to fix this problem?
I had installed SQL Server 2008 Developer R2 on my notebook and found this error 1605, I couldn't fix it although I tried to search the informations, someone said its errors belonged to MSXML 6, and I must install a new OS, but at that time, it's still not working, please help me!

Based on your descriptions, it looks like you have SQL 2008 installed and are trying to install SQL 2008 R2 SP1.
Make sure you install SQL 2008 SP1 and not the R2 service pack.

I am installing Sql Server 2008 Developer not SP1 or R2, when I installed R2, it reported the same error, some exception was thrown and the Database Engine Services can not be installed, so I tried to install the Sql Server 2008 Developer and will update to SP 1 and SP2 after it had done. But I can't, how can I do to fix this?

Hi,
Can you please post the snapshot of the error? All I am trying to understand is, at which stage does this error occur.
Also, Correct me if I have misunderstood.
You are trying to install SQL 2008 developer edition, right?
