The comment on the key-value store makes me ponder a bit. Is this going to be the new thing that is meant to compete with NoSQL on a different level from the mature RDMS?

I think it's a simplistic way of looking at a problem. Parallel problems often use simple data stores, nothing complex, and my guess is this is a start. Over time I'd expect it to use more complex data storage.
