C2 Audit

  • Hi, On one of our 2000 servers C2 Auditing is enabled. We have a situation wherein we want to turn if off. Does it require service recycling or just reconfigure with override will do?

  • i'm very sure you need to simply change the c2 audit setting, then just stop and start the server;

    i've done it quite a few times, and that's all i did.

    Thanks Lowell:-)

    Since it's a prod box, we might not be able to do the restart until we reach the green zone to disable C2. Though restart of services is not required for enabling C2-only reconfigure with override does it.

  • i remember having to restart when i was playing around with lots of traces;

    when C2 auditing is on, c2 traceid = 1, the default trace = traceid 2, and any other traces i started with sp_procoption were 3, 4 etc.

    when i disabled the C2 trace, the default trace became traceid = 1 after a start and stop, and all my other traces essentially decremented fromt heir old traceid by 1;

    i was toggling C2 on and off, and discovered this when i had a view that hardcoded to use traceID = 2...it suddenly started showing other data than i expected, and discovering this behavior made "the light" come on.
