Thirty-some years ago we had a tech that fixed a hard drive problem with a hammer. The drive wasn't spinning up so he whacked it. All fixed.

The trick is knowing that special place to whack it.

There are days when a hammer would come in handy, but I usually think along the lines of a sledgehammer or something bigger. We have one server I'd like to take to the range and put out of its misery.

If percussive maintenance doesn't fix the problem, gravitational maintenance is known to work.

It is probably more theraputic than the firmware configuration fix.
