Hi,
Just was wondering if there is some online calculator which allows to calculate the license cost for SQL Server 2014?
I am looking at buying the license for a 16 core AWS VM and wondering if Business Intelligence edition is much more expensive compared to Standard?
Thanks.

But they have totally different features, if you don't need the BI features then Standard + CAL will be cheaper, if you need these features then you can compare Enterprise Core licensing and BI Server + CAL licensing (if applicable)

Those BI features are nice to have, but I can go without. If the difference is minimal, I will get BI, if big, I will get standard. So I need to compare BI and Standard.

Nice to have, but costly 🙂 $931 (Standard Server) vs $8,908 (Business intelligence Server) and CALs (circa 200$) for each user/device https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/server-cloud/products/sql-server/purchasing.aspx, simple math.
For standard you have a option to pay for cores.

Look at Microsoft License Advisor http://mla.microsoft.com/ this will give you basic costs.
Then talk to your normal Microsoft license reseller. Depending on the deal you have, getting additional SQL licences may be more or less expensive than shown by the Advisor.
