The only BIDS download I can find installs VS 2005 and is crashing under Vista (even after patch and SP1). Is it possible to copy the report designer templates of BIDS for use in VS 2008? If so, how? Do I just copy IDE\PrivateAssemblies\Business* folders from ... Studio 8\Common7 to ... Studio 9.0\Common7?

You should be able to run 2005 on Vista. I've been doing so for almost 2 years.
I think all I had to do was make sure to patch visual studio.

BIDS crashes when moving items in the header pane even with all the patches and SP1. Anyway, I don't want to have both VS 2005 and 2008 installed.

Ah. Can't help on that one. I haven't had time to try out VS 2008 yet.
