Hi,
I have a question regarding bulk-logged recovery mode. If you switch from full recovery to bulk-logged recovery, and perform your bulk operation while updates are coming in, then shortly after you complete the bulk operation, you experience system failure. Can you recovery the updates that took place after you switched to bulk-logged recovery mode if you haven't take any database backups after you switched. What is the chosen strategy when you switch to bulk-logged recovery mode to avoid data loss in case of system or media failure. Please clarify.
Thanks,
Karim

When you switch recovery modes out of simple modes, then you do need a fullbackup. You can switch between bulk and full without this. If it fails after your load, then you can still recover to the end of the load.

The 'paranoid' DBA in me now comes to light ... To be on the safe side I always perform a full backup every time I switch recovery modes ... Backup is fast, disk space is cheap ... besides one never knows when one will encounter a "new" undocumented feature (bug) ...
