Bug in Enterprise Manager

  • When I right click to restore a databse in EM, I get this error:

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Subquery returned more than 1 value. This is not permitted when the subquery follows =, !=, <, <= , >, >= or when the subquery is used as an expression.

The EM them freezes and I need to use the Task Manager to kill it becuase it stops responding.

Does anyone know how to get arounf this. The server is SQL server 2000 with service pack 3 installed. The same thing happens on 3 different servers with Windows 2000 Advanced Server and Windows 2003 Server.

    Thanks.

  • Can you specify exactly the steps to reproduce this? Since you are seeing it on different boxes I guess you have encountered a bug, and the only way to get it fixed is to open a case with MS Support for it. Also, since Service Pack 4 was released three days ago, check if it is already solved there.

  • I just do the normal restore of a dtabase from EM br right clicking a database and selecting restore database. As soon as this is done, I get the above error and the EM freezes. I have downloaded the SP4 but I am not in a hurry to apply it until I am sure others are not having problems wiht it.

    Thanks for your comment.

  • Ok, I'll test later if I get the same behaviour. I am not expecting it though, usually there is something else behind these problems. Anyway, you can also check the list of fixed issues in SP4 if you do not want to install it.

  • When you press "Restore DB" EM runs set of queries searching for physical devises, last backups, etc.

    8 queries in total.

Run profiler and find out which query causes your error.

Probably it's something wrong with your backup records in msdb..backupset
