Related to the PROCESSOR Tab option 'Boost SQL Server priority on windows'. I do have a dedicated server with Business Objects users access. What will Boost buy me and what will it cost me?
Thanks, Anna

It boots sqlsrvr.exe in the windows priority against other applications. It might get you slightly better performance, but if there are other processes on the box that might need resources, they could respond slower. If you are that tapped on the box for resources, this probably won't help. If you are trying to squeeze a little more performance, it might help slightly.

I boost the priority on all my SQL Servers. They are only running SQL Server though. If your server is a dedicated SQL box, it won't hurt things to check the boost priority box. If you notice any problems, you can always turn it off.

From what I understand, its the opposite. If your box is dedicated to SQL Server, there is no need to check "boost" and in fact, it can be detrimental (taking resources from other things like the OS or programs launched by Agent, etc.)

I've heard the same thing. Usually PSS will instruct you to do this under certain circumstances. Not sure why they don't publish those circumstances, but who knows.
If it works for you and you've tested both ways, then I think you can turn it on. Be sure you test light, medium, and heavy loads though.

Apparently, MS used to recommend setting the priority boost on if the server was dedicated to SQL Server. This has changed since there have been some failures caused on very busy systems where this setting has caused OS threads to be starved (particularly network threads) thereby causing a failure situation.
Leave the setting at 0 (off).
