Anyone recommend a good book on Transactions?

What do you mean? Programming them?
I think most books have similar advice. I do like Inside SQL Server as a basic reference for "how things work". Ken Henderson's "Guru" book is good for T-SQL.

Be careful here and do lots of investigation. distributed transactions tightly bind your servers togther into a 2 phase commit. If one server is down, you cannot complete any transactions.
I tend to agree you want to investigate MTS. Also look up the Distributed Transaction Coordinator on TechNet or MSDN.
