And another one ... not me this time tho! And just what I needed on the night of our month end run while I was trying to run some defrags and update some stats on key tables!!
Our 1st line support team run updates on some tables based on tickets going in to their queue. Unfortunately, they forgot the where clause and didn't use a transaction!
Fortunately, we have a log shipping system (a custom version), so I disabled the log copy - fortunately just before the log was copied and applied and I updated the production data with data from the log shipping system. We had some 150 accounts with the wrong data but that was acceptable under the circumstances!
Nightmare scenario as 1.8m customers were affected and we were lucky to have the log shipping system and very lucky the call was not 5 minutes later otherwise we'd have been restoring and that would be about 7 hours work!!
Unfortunately, even with this, company politics still demand that 1st line support do this work!! Fingers crossed they now use transactions like they are instructed to!
