FWIW, I did get a new battery camera and then added a solar panel to keep it going. It worked really well.

A few weeks ago, I purchased a handful of flood / freeze detectors for my Ring security system.
Also, it would be an interesting project to buy some solar panels and setup hybrid solar / direct DC power for my home's air conditioner. I like the idea that, the hotter it is, the harder the solar panels work.

I would quite like to experiment with a 3D printer. One of my hobbies is building model railways and after trying to scratch build the Victorian bridge at Millers Dale in the UK Peak District national park I think the only way to build it to sufficient quality is to use 3D printing to build the parts. Somewhat nervous that what I want to do is rather advanced for a beginner.
Failing that, I would like to get my digital piano repaired. Sometimes repairing tech is as rewarding (and more cost effective) than replacing tech.
David, I loved the model railroad my Dad built for my for Christmas in 1949 with a Lionel 027-gague 5-car train on a 4x8 plywood table. I ran it so much that he had to take up the track and put the old foam carpet padding under it as roadbed to dampen the noise. The amazing thing is that I have passed that set down to one of my sons and now 74 years later it still runs under his Christmas tree every year and he sends me videos.
The layout I always wanted to build was published decades ago in Model Railroader mag called the "Ma and Pa" (Manchester and Paradise) shortline. But life didn't lead me to that.
An aging friend of mine recently sold off his layout that had filled two rooms in his basement for years.

Rod, our electricity went out about 8:30am on Thanksgiving and was out until around 1:00pm. I'll bet lots of folks were upset about their holiday meal prep. Then yesterday a truck stops at the foot of my drive and unloaded a Christmas present from my 'gadget girl' wife. We now have an emergency generator that my son is having one of his electricians install in a few days. At least Black Friday wasn't entirely black.
Sorry to hear that, Rick. I was sick and bedridden with the flu all last week.

I would like to have a 4 day Thanksgiving weekend where no one needed help doing something.

Jeff, I hear you loud and clear. I spent decades being on call 24/7/365 for supporting systems. Had dinners with family and friends at restaurants interrupted, calls while on vacation, etc. Cell phones made it even worse. Never in 42 years had any OT pay, comp time etc except one time when a company owner gave wife and I flight tickets to Hawaii after a large project.
You have to take care of yourself along the way, plan ahead and all that.
Happy Thanksgiving to you all at SSC.
