Best Way to Learn SSIS 2008 Scripting

  • I have been using SSIS since 2005. However, I have not had much experience with SSIS scripting. I did VB6 and VBA (MS Access, MS Excel) back in the day, but I don't think I've touched any of that since 2001 or so (yes, this was back before .Net). What is the best way to get up to speed in this brave new world of SSIS scripting? What books are recommended?

  • SSIS Script Component/Task are no rocket science. All you need is your basic logic and requirement of the component behaviour clear.

  • I used the following book to get up to speed with VB.NET:

Programming Visual Basic 2008 by Tim Patrick, published by O'Reilly.

You don't need to read every chapter in the book to understand scripting in SSIS.

  • Also with 2008 you can now use C# as a scripting language, I found this better as C# is a lot more in demand as a skill.
