We will be having the cluster SQL server 2008 and 2005 and both the servers will have multiple named instances. Do I have to have the one default and multiple instances or can I have all the multiple named instances without the default instance. Is it going to a problem not having the default instance? please advice...

You can have all named instances. What you need to do is check to see if your app or apps require a default instance. SQL itself doesn't care beyond you are only allowed one default instance per cluster no matter if you are using one version or multiple versions.
