Hi,
Could anyone let me know the best alterts to configure for a SQL 2005 server?. I've run through the list and there are so many.
I would be grateful to know the alerts most commonly used by DBA's.

Just a few random thoughts on the subject - I've got alerts for all of the critical severity levels (just 20-25 right now) going to email, as far as generic alerts (in addition to having jobs notify operators when they fail, of course)
A good "template" to use might be:
1. what do you check for failure/success every day
2. what do you want to know about right away (i.e. the system-level failures) - some DBA's might set one of these on a login failed message, depending on their requirements (but for most that would be overkill, not to mention extremely annoying)
3. what shows up as a repeat offender in your error log (if anything)
4. are there any performance conditions you want to monitor (if, for example, you know you have a problem with deadlocks that you're trying to track down and solve, you could set up a temporary - or permanent - alert for that condition to try to catch the offending process/processes)
