Where do you guys suggest is the best location to live in the UK if you want a plentiful supply of SQL Server data warehouse/BI contracts over the next couple of years excluding any work in London?
I have used http://www.itjobswatch.co.uk which is excellent and there seems to be a lot more contracts coming up in the West Mids these days around Birmingham and Coventry.
I would be interested to know what you guys think based upon your experiences?

Berkshire/mids perhaps, most sql work is/or around london. even if you dont want to live anywhere near london, chances are that you will need to get the train into london to get into work no matter where it is.

I guess your right. The work is certainly plentiful in the capital, although the idea of working there doesn't thrill me...!
Having never worked there, it may not be as busy as I think?!!

Didn't thrill me either... I stood it just long enough to see out a 3 month contract and refused an extension. I'd need to be down to my last loaf of bread before I went back.
As Silverfox says, Berkshire or rather, the Thames Valley isn't a bad place to try.

ROFLMAO, I take it that you dont need to earn any bread then :-P, on a side note, worked in the thames valley area, not too shabby, london isnt too bad, as long as you put your blinkers on and headphones, BIG headphones and ignore everything around you, you will be fine 😉

Good tips guys - all noted. No mention of the West Mids though - I guess that is wishful thinking on my part....

You know, if it paid well enough, I'd considering working in the UK for a few years. Been 28 years since I left, and I would love to come back for a while.

Are you saying the money is better where you are now then Lynn? 😉

Not really, but after the conversion factor on some of the jobs I have looked at, it isn't worth trying at the moment.

Ideally, I would love to get out of the UK and contract in Canada but as yet I haven't found a good resource to give me enough information.
Any ideas/advice?

Nope, haven't looked at working up north in Canada.
