Best of SQL Server Central

  • I'm a newbie so I may have completely missed this. But, where can I obtain copies of the various volumes of the Best of SQL Server Central books? I noticed that they are giving a free eBook version if you do a 14 day trial of SQL Toolbelt. However, since I'm just starting out that download wouldn't do me much use since most of the advantage gained by its functionality is a bit more than I can fully leverage right now. I've searched all over this site but I cannot seem to find where I can purchase the book. I'm sure I'm looking right at it and just not seeing it. :doze: Can somebody point me in the right direction?

  • That's odd. There used to be a link to buy them. I can't find it anywhere. Steve!

  • Hmm. Well, now I feel better since it's not just me!

I did find a little relief. I answered one of the SQL Server Stumper questions (from the banner at the top of the pages here) and was directed to the Red Gate site. There is a link on the landing page that allowed me to download volumes 5 & 6 along with some other books.

Thanks for the help though. It's much appreciated. Please do let me know if there is any progress in where I can get volumes 1-4.

  • I don't know if Steve's got some other magic link - but some of them look to be available via amazon.com:

    http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=%22SQLServerCentral%22

Strangely enough - the newest one seems to be marked "out of print" (the October 2008 version, that is....)

  • :), I'd love to resell these, having a few issues with Amazon. We've pulled them off the site as well for now.

Red Gate is using most of these as marketing tools, but we are looking to get a "books" section set up and make these available for download (not sure of cost).

If you're coming to the SSC party, the best of v6 is being given away.

  • Just curious... do authors still get free copies? And, what was the cutoff for V6?

  • If anyone has a volume 4 laying around, I'd love to get a copy.

  • Authors get copies, I'll send out copies to those, uh, slackers that don't make PASS when I get back. 😀

They're all here, have to ship them back to Denver. Cutoff was sometime this summer. I think Jeff, you're in there.

I'll have to look and see if I have a v4 somewhere.

  • Cool... thanks, Steve...

  • Steve, I'd like a copy of V4 if you can get one. That was the first publication containing anything I had written. Aahhh, memories.

  • I followed the Amazon links for the books. Thanks!

  • Shall we have a DVD version besides the paper book? The book is too heavy to carry. While DVD is easy to either print when needed or read online, plus copy & paste the code.

  • Now that's an awesome idea! I wonder how many volumes you could pack onto a single sided DVD?

  • We have PDF versions and are working with developers to get an "ebook" section here on the site.
