And I thank you for that!! I've worked as both a developer (VB, ASP, C#) and a DBA, and I prefer to be a DBA. So thank you for being my yin to my yang so that we can both do the job we prefer.

That's probably in the TOP 20 (no pun intended) of the all-time most requested T-SQL improvements, and someone at Microsoft agrees with you... SQL 2005 includes a new SELECT TOP (@var) syntax without all the mucking about with SET ROWCOUNT and dynamic SQL.

- you're right...it's only a matter of ratio these days...instead of 6 of one and half a dozen of the other..you could actually be weightier on one side than the other..but you can't really escape either role altogether...
