bcp import

  • Good day,

I'm using bcp to move data from one server to another.

The source table has a million rows and the rows are 2100 bytes wide. I was able to bcp out to a text file with no problem, however, the bcp in on the destionation server is failing. It's not permissions or anything like that, my bcp in's for tables with similar row counts but narrower row sizes all worked fine.

I came across some old posts online indicating there was a 1900 / 2000 (depending on what post) limitation on the size of the row that can be imported using bcp. I don't see anything in BOL that speaks to this.

Does anyone confirm or refute this for sure?

    Thanks!

    BTW this is SS2000.

  • For posterity...

I overlooked a simpler answer. I was using a comma as the field terminator and some of the data legitimately contained commas. The row limit is not 2000, I imagine it can handle up to the 8k limit of the table row.
