basic Partition question

  • Hope this does not sound too stupid.

I have a database that lives on a partition called F: on an NT 4.0 server.

The share permissions for the partition are everyone full control.

I use NT authentication to secure the database.

Would it be a good idea to limit the share permissions? Do the database users need full control?

Once you've accepted your flaws, no one can use them against you.

  • Not a dumb question at all. No one needs share or file access on the drive except the account that SQL runs under. Definitely remove everyone and add back the SQL account and maybe Domain Admins. Recommend you make the changes after hours and test!
