Great question (albeit a tad nefarious!)
And this is precisely why both semi-colons and AS for aliases should always be used!

Very sneaky. And even worse, it leaves an open transaction! Please put a ROLLBACK in that CATCH block before someone walks away from their keyboard and starts triggering alerts! (You are monitoring for idle transactions I hope).
