Sounds like a stupid thing to do but I've been told to do it! I'm migrating a database from a SQL8 server to a SQL7 Server both are running win2k. what I want to know is what do I do with the backup history, will I even be able to restore an old version of the database if the backup was taken on SQL8 and I try restoring to the 'new' SQL7 version of the database.

Are you saying you were asked to downgrade SQL Server 2000 database into SQL Server 7.0? Curious why if it is?
You can't restore SQL Serevr 2000 database into SQL Server 7.0! You have to use export/import methods.

Yes, I was told to do this, why - because we have several sites and the won't pay to upgrade at the target site!
I have already done all the scripting, I was just concerned about future recovery and you confirmed it, thanks. Sounds like this could be fun and may come back to haunt someone at a later date!!
