Backward Compatibility (sql 2005 to sql 2000)

    Can you load a backup from sql 2005 onto sql 2000? Any known issues? (links would be helpful...)

    I dont think we can restore the backup of SQL 2005 db to SQL 2000.

    Pls keep us posted if its possible.

    Hmmm...  I thought for sure if you demoted the database to SQL Server 2000 compatibility level, made a backup, and then tried restoring that on a SQL Server 2000 instance it would work, but I just tried it and no dice.  Bummer!

    Can you try copying all objects/data from the SQL2005 database to the SQL2000 server?  Not sure what your logistics are or what your actual goal is here, but there are many ways to skin the proverbial cat!

    The only way I know of doing something like this is to do and export data task from 2005 to 2000.  BUt you only get a few objects that way and not the whole thing.  BUt maybe it is enough for you ATM??
