We currently have a MSA1000 of which half of it is RAID (D: Drive) and there other half non-RAIN (E: Drive). We are using the D: drive for the Database storage area and the E: drive for our backuping up of the DB.
We would like to use the entire MSA1000 as our Database Storage unit and then move our backup to a SAN or something.
I need a diagram of what this would look like so I could show my boss?
Also, I would assume that the MSA1000 would act as a D drive and the new SAN would act as the E drive? So the SQL box would have to talk to both the D and E Drive?
Thanks in advance for your time in answering my questions.

You can probably create the diagram using Visio. HP does have stencils available if you want to show the physical back-end. If that's useful to your boss... that is. Depending on how your fabric is designed, you may need additional HBAs, etc. Without knowing your physical hardware setup, I can't answer that. You should be able to contact your HP reps, though, and they can get an engineer to help you with your configuration... the reason I suggest this is because you want to make sure you do the capacity and recovery planning for your SAN correctly.
Yes, the SQL box would have to talk to both D and E.
