Backup set is not expiring.

    I have a maintenance plan for daily backup of two database.

    I have checked the Backup set will expire after 2 days. But the database backup is piling up it is not removing the backup older than

    two days.If I view my maintenance plan I could see Backup set will expire:after(in days) 2

    Destination: disk

    Where have I gone wrong?

    The expiration date of a backup only means that it can be removed or overwritten after that date. It does not mean that the backup is automatically removed.

    With SQL 2000 maintenance plan you had a setting "remove files older than x days", in 2005 you have to add a "maintenance clean-up task" to your maintenance plan.
