Backup Schedule

  • Hi!

I need to schedule backup on each Friday and need to keep 4 backups.

We are using ola hallengren script, what should be the retention for this requirement?

    Thanks in advance.

  • @CleanupTime is in hours. Four weeks is 672 hours.

  • There are probably an infinite number of ways to schedule a backup. However, most people will use SQL Agent, which is built right into SQL Server instances (assuming you're not running Express, in which case, do a search for scheduling tools, some are built into the OS, some are easily downloaded for free).

Have you checked to see if you have room for FIVE  backups plus growth for the future?  And what of the Transaction Log/Diff backups?  Do you have room for FIVE sets plus growth?

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.
