Backup media verification failed

  Hi All

  When I try to restore my database using SSMS 2008r2 gui and I push the 'Verify Backup Media' I get the error message that 'backup media verification failed'. My backups are on a file share and sql is looking at a local disk for the backups.

  What is the recommended way to backup the files:

  1. backup to a file share

  or

  2. backup to local disk and then get them off the server

  Please ensure that your SQL Server Service account has permission on the shared folder that containing backup file.
