Hi,
my backup job fails periodically with the following error -
Executed as user: NT1\Administrator. Cannot open backup device 'ABCDevice'. Device error or device off-line. See the SQL Server error log for more details. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 3201) BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 3013). The step failed
does anyone know what this means and how to get thru this -
any help greatly appreciated - thanks in advance
Regards!!!

Hi.
Your backup device is no accessable. this can occur because:
1. You are backing to a remote share file and the share isn't accessable.
2. The drive the backup device is on, may not exist any more, corrupt or nt1\admin doesn't have premisions to write to. (likely if it is on another computer).
You really need to look at the sql server logs. In EM goto management->SQL server logs.
yoav.
