Backup Devices

  • Some one created under Backup Device as diskbackup and undel properites I see only devicename:diskbackup, how can I find out where backup goes too? Thank you

  • In properties you should also see a destination section. In the destination section is where the backup will be placed.

  • I don't see it, it is all grey out

  • Then it seems like somebody did not complete the setup of the backup device correctly and thus it would not be working correctly at this point or is not in use.

  • Are the live backup jobs referencing that backup device ?

  • yes

  • I don't know what the problem is. I just created a Backup Device and gave it a name and destination path. Then, after creation, look at properties & on General tab I see the name & destination path. They are greyed out so I cannot edit, but I can read it.

What version and SP of SQL are you using ?

  • 2005

  • If you create a new backup device, do you get the same result ?

  • Do you have a 3rd party backup utility installed?

  • No, when I create my device I don't see the same thing

No, when I create my device I don't see the same thing

In that case - I would delete the device and create a new one with the same name in its place.
