Hi can you help advise with the best way to copy all the databases from one sever to another in the shortest downtime poss? I intend to stop the services on both and simply copy all the mdf and ldf files accross. I didn;t want to detach them as that also removes them, although I guess I could add them back simply. I'd then overwrite the master, mdoel, msdb on the destination server - there are no other databases there so I don't see that it matters. The only complication I can think of is that the dest is sp 3, while the exporting is sp2 - wil the system databases be OK - I Know there are modifications to the system dbs in sp3. Or will I have to run sp3 upgrade on the exporting server before moving the system dbs?
Any advice welcomed. I checked out the dts copy database wizard but there were errors with the job (accroding to the execution test) and I couldn't see what the error was. The mdf seems the easiest option and quicker than backing up first and moving the .baks.

Think I'd run sp3 first, then move. Tried to restore sp2 backup over sp3 this week, wouldnt work, had to go back to sp2 plus hotfix to get it done.

If your non systems databases are not part of a replication then you want have any problems.
But you can't do that with your systems db.
I would copy only the user databases. If you need any login to export, then insert it into the master of the server with Sp3 from the server with Sp2.
