Hello all:
I just upgraded from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008 and the backup cleanup job started to fail. There is not any output but the script is checking the tape drive for backups before it deletes them.
Does anyone have any idea why this job is now failing or where I can locate a script that will work to complete the same task for SQL Server 2008?
Thanks,
Daniel

Daniel,
have you tried creating a new cleanup job with the new version of SSMS? They are quite easy to recreate using the GUI tools, and its probably faster to do that, than to try and fix the older version.

Thanks for the reply. I have but we need a method of checking what is currently on tape before the backup cleanup occurs. We hired someone to come in a write a custom script for this but this script is not working after the upgrade.
Do you know of any supported changed in code in 2008 vs. 2005?
Thanks again,
Daniel

I haven't heard of changes in this code, but I know almost no one that backs up to tape directly. It's error prone, and asking for trouble as you reuse media. If there's a media issue, you have lost your backup.

What we do is backup to SAN and then the drives are backed up each night to tape. The backup cleanup script checks the tapes for the needed backups and then deletes the same backups from disk.
