Backup and Restoration Issue...

  • Hi Experts,

    Am using SQL server 2008.

    My Backup Strategy is :

    >Weekly Full Backup

    >Daily Differential Backup and

    >Hourly Log backup.

Now My Question is ,If the 1st,2nd ,3rd and 4th days Differential backups got corrupted.

I have Recent Fullback backup and 5th ,6th days Differential backups with all log backups ,In this scenario how can i restore upto the till date,Which backups i have to restore from all the Backups(Full,Diff and Log) .

Please give me resolutions for this..

    Regards

    Jagadeesh....

  • The full, the latest diff, all the logs since that diff. The fact that earlier diffs are corrupt is irrelevant.

  • Thank you Gila for giving the reply @ GilaMonster

If All the Differential Backups got corrupted means in that case what will be the resolution to restore the data.

If all the differential backups were corrupt, assuming you had all the log backups available, you could still restore the full backup and then all the log backups.

I'm not sure why you're so focused on the differentials as such a huge vulnerability to corruption. Frankly the FULL backup is the one to worry about. Without that, nothing else will work.

Thanking people is not an issue at all. And, for my part, Gail is a constant source of knowledge and inspiration. But the real issue is that Gail is of the female persuasion, so calling her "Mr." sort of doesn't work. I think that's what people were pointing out.
