database role, backupadmin.

How is a DBA not allowed access to the rest of the server?

Because of Audit and that DBA is from other department. So all Auditing issue

How about adding him to the db_backupoperator Role in all databases and db_owner as well instead of SA.

If all he needs to do is backup a database, db_owner membership is overkill.
