Backing Up on Network Location

  • Hi,

Can we backup a database on a network location?

or can we restore from a network location (without copying the backup file on the local machine)?

I tried both but they didnt work, any one has any idea?

    FYI.........my problem is

Server 1 has a DB say abc...........backup is scheduled of abc daily at 9 PM

i want to restore this backup on Server 2 (without copying the backup file from Server 1 to Server 2).........

    Thanks,

    Usman

  • In SQL 2005 you can backup to a network location. You just have to make sure that the account running the SQL Server Agent has the appropriate level of rights to that location.

  • i have seen that, but its not working. SQL Server agent is running under my network user. and i have the access to the other server. But its not working.

  • What error are you getting?

  • What does 'it does not work' mean?

  • I remember doing it on SQL 2000 also. I couldn't browse to the file location in the backup & restore GUIs, but I could "copy-paste" it into the file location.
