Gambino Crime Family pocketted ~ $650 million in Credit Card and Telephone Number theft last year.... I guess I'd better get a shredder too...
I wasn't born stupid - I had to study.

And fresh from the Chicago Tribune!!
More than 5,000 Illinois residents are at risk after their personal data was compromised in a massive fraud.

In the UK we are bombarded with adverts for shredders at £xx.xx and everyone is looking at them and thinking "hmmm... that is pretty good value".
Call me a contrary old sod but a box of matches costs about 10p

Wasn't there recently a sentence where they send some American to jail for sending Spam?

Frank,
As a matter of fact it was either the end of last week or the beginning of this week that they arrested a man for spamming IM of all things. Actually, I believe he was charged with attempted extortion.

I stand corrected,
The article I was referring to was for SPIM not SPAM!

I will say that I keep a credit card with a low limit for purchases where the card will leave my sight such as resturants. But low and behold a few years back my wife handed my bank credit card to someone who used a hand reader apparently and got my info. Unfortunate from them I am broke all the time so there order was a no go and I got notified by a local detective where the attempted use of my card occurred. I gave him all the details of my transactions before that time and marked where I suspected the occurrance took place. They did catch them as well. But what ticked me off most of all was they tried to use at a grocery store and the store let them use the card number without the card. The detective wouldn't let me know where it was and if he had I probably wouldn't be broke today cause I was miffed for sure.
As for spam I usually don't give a good account out. I have several email accounts which are mine thru places like hotmail and yahoo. They do pretty good knocking out the largest spammers but the best thing is I don't use my bandwidth. Occasionally my home accounts get ensnared so I just create another address with Road Runner, notify those I expect of the address change and delete the other address.

SPIM is spam through instant messaging. I've been hit a few times, mostly someone sending a sentence and a URL through.

Hah, next question: What is instant messaging?

Frank,
Wait till your kids are old enough and they will even teach you how to use it - mine taught me!!
It is real time chat sessions (MS Messenger, Yahoo Chat...).

On days like these I feel that old !!! Lots of horrible mistakes in my answers, not knowing such things like instant messaging and number crunching at work
Thanks anyway.
