AWE and /PAE without /3GB

  • The problem I'm experiencing is that I have followed all the TechNet stuff, just to be left out in the cold.

I went thru the whole thing...

    1./PAE in the boot.ini

    2.Enable AWE

3.Give my service account rights to lock pages in memory

4.Set max server memory at 4040 (MB?) in sp_configure

    My hardware 4 X 700Mhz, 6 GIG memory...

The Task manager reports mem usage on sqlservr.exe as 168MB ??

I have 4 server one running /PAE and /3GB with mem usage on sqlservr.exe at 2.8GB.

Another server running /PAE /3GB and AWE with mem usage on sqlservr.exe at 2.8GB.

Another server running /PAE and AWE with mem usage on sqlservr.exe at 168MB.

Another server running /PAE and AWE with mem usage on sqlservr.exe at 68MB.

ALL these servers have 6 GIG of memory with the same OS Win 2K Advanced Server and SQL 2000 Enterprise. The SQL max server memory is all set to between 3.8GIG and 4.2 GIG.

NONE of my server utilize more than 3GIG of memory... WHY?? and how do I get to use it?

  • Where are you measuring memory at? Task Manager? From what I've seen it doesn't accurately report it when you use AWE.

  • Have you specifically set the min memory for SQL Server? With AWE you need to do this.

  • Done the whole thing, noticed it did not report it on Task Manager. I used Performance monitor too see the actual memory used for the SQL server and this turned out to be the expected 4 GIG's I configured it.

  • The counter is SQLServer:Memory Manager Total Server Memory (KB)
