Hello Guys,
We set up an environment which has principal server, mirror server and witness server for automatic failover. I successfully tested automatic failover but I have a question for application code failover. I am wondering how will the application know how to look into the failover database server or mirror server which would be having different name. If any one has any ideas or suggestions, it would help me a lot. I somehow feel that the application code would not matter and rather it will be automatically be pointing to the mirror server, but I wanted to make sure as to how it is done.
Thanks a tonn guys

Depends on if the client you're using to connect to SQL supports redirection.
Have a look at this article: Implementing Application Failover with Database Mirroring

Thanks a tonn for that reply,
It did help me out in redirecting application to the mirror server. I have one more question for you, do you know a way using which I can do automatic failover to a distributor database.
I have
1 Publisher
1 Distributor
1 Subscriber
I need a failover distributor for DR purposes. Can we implement something like that?
ANy help would be appreciated,
Nikhil

You may find some benefit in checking out Double-Take:
It will support both data replication to a mirror server and automatic failover.
