Automate Restore 1

  • Can someone write an article that shows how to read a backup file, get the logical file names/locations, and then perform a restore?

Custom config to change the dbname, the folder paths would be nice.

  • I'll take this one.

  • Steve, has this one been committed? If not, I have something for this one.

  • And I could do one on auto restores to another instance / server. If you wanted something that comes after the basic.

I wonder how similar our methods may/may not be. The method I use (nightly) does that too.

  • Haven't seen a note on this one. Take it.

  • Consider it taken then

Heh... Talk about serindipity. I was just doing this very same thing on a production server and said to myself "this would make a great article".

I checked as well as I could to see if you've written the article and came up with nothing. Did you ever write it? If so, can you post the URL for it?

    Thanks, Jason.

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

  • How about you, Steve? Has anyone done the article for this that you know of?
