I have a database which has autogrow turned on and is set to grow 10%. My database was 228GB. my database grew last night to a size of 270GB. This is far more then 10%, more like 20%.
How is this possible?

That might had happened step by step. Is autoshrink ON for this database?

I would also change your autogrowth to grow by a set size each time. Growing by 10% means each time it grows, it will grow by 10% of its current size. As your database gets larger, it may take more and more time to grow when needed.

manu: i do not have autoshrink on
lynn: I have thought of changnig from percentage to fixed size. just haven't got around to it. but in light of the grow by percent doesnt seem to be working correctly i may have to sooner rather then later.
