Auto submit in SSRS report

  • Hello,

I have designed a report with 3 dynamic variables. The values for the variables can be changed using a drop down box. When I change the value in any one of the boxes the report auto submits and the page goes blank. I have to click on the 'View Report' tab to view the report. How can I stop the report from either auto submitting or if it does submit automatically then atleast displaying the correct results instead of a blank page?

    Thanks,

    SJ

  • AFAIK you can not change that behaviour, unless you build your own UI on top of reportviewer.

When you think it over it even makes sense it works this way: when a parameter is changed, probably more parameters might be changed. To prevent a lot of traffic to the db (and waiting time for the user) the report is not refreshed immediately with the current set of parameters. The refresh of the report is only done when the user indicates (by clicking "View report") that he is done chosing parameters.

However: to prevent inconsistency between the chosen parameters and the shown report the previously shown report is blanked out, as it may no longer be accurate for the chosen parameters. (unfortunately this works only for dynamic (interrelated) parameters in our SSRS 2005 environment)

If they had finetuned this behaviour, a new report could be shown if there is only 1 parameter (visible) for the report, and that parameter is changed. That would be however be harder to explain to users!
